Geomorphic Transport laws: Non-local Flux with Classical Mass Balance By
نویسندگان
چکیده
Most geomorphic transport laws proposed to date are local in character, i.e., they express the sediment flux at a point as a function of the elevation gradient or curvature or other geomorphic quantities at that point only. We argue that non-local constitutive laws, in which the flux at a point depends on the conditions in some larger neighborhood around this point in space and/or time, present a physically-motivated alternative which can handle the presence of heterogeneities known to exist in landscapes over a large range of scales. A particularly attractive subclass of these non-local constitute laws involves fractional (non-integer) derivatives in time and/or space and provides a rich class of models extensively studied in other fields of science. We draw on two examples to illustrate the scale dependency of the parameters of local geomorphic transport equations and suggest that this dependency has the potential to be alleviated by non-local constitutive laws.

Geomorphic Transport Laws for Predicting Landscape Form and Dynamics
A geomorphic transport law is a mathematical statement derived from a physical principle or mechanism, which expresses the mass flux or erosion caused by one or more processes in a manner that: 1) can be parameterized from field measurements, 2) can be tested in physical models, and 3) can be applied over geomorphically significant spatial and temporal scales. Such laws are a compromise between...
متن کاملMass Transfer Modeling of CO2 Absorption into Blended MDEA-MEA Solution
In this research, the thermodynamics and mass transfer of CO2 absorption has been studied in a mixture of MDEA-MEA amines. A relation is presented for mass transfer flux in the reactive-absorption process. For this purpose, the effective parameters on the mass transfer flux were investigated in both liquid and gas phases. Then, using dimensional analysis with the Pi-Buckingham theorem, the effe...

The heat and mass transfer analysis for MHD Casson fluid boundary layer flow over a permeable stretching sheet through a porous medium is carried out. The effect of non-uniform heat generation/absorption and chemical reaction are considered in heat and mass transport equations correspondingly. The heat transfer analysis has been carried out for two different heating processes namely; the prescr...

متن کاملA total variation diminishing high resolution scheme for nonlinear conservation laws
In this paper we propose a novel high resolution scheme for scalar nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws. The aim of high resolution schemes is to provide at least second order accuracy in smooth regions and produce sharp solutions near the discontinuities. We prove that the proposed scheme that is derived by utilizing an appropriate flux limiter is nonlinear stable in the sense of total varia...
